“She helped me build my online profile”.
Way back in the Philippines around 2018 I already have an idea of what is freelancing and the good things it can bring to you and your family. I have been reading testimonies and successful stories about freelancing, how their lives changed drastically from upgrading gadgets and equipment to purchasing a house and a car. I was extremely motivated that I began searching on how to start my freelancing career. I searched online for weeks, reading blogs and articles but my mind is not grasping any pieces of information, like what is a niche? Where to get that target market? Services? I came to the point that I had information overload and decided to stop because I was thinking that it’s so hard and I can’t do it. I know to myself that I have the skills but I don’t know where and how to start. Until I relocated to another country forgetting that desire to be a freelancer.
"She helped me find my “niche”!"
A few months after around December 2019 while I was scrolling on Facebook, I found this FVA Academy that offers freelancing courses for an affordable price. My desire to be one of those successful people ignites. I messaged the page right away, did a reservation for the next month’s batch and enrolled in a Freelancing Course V.2 led by the owner and co-founder Coach Julmar Grace Locsin. The company is located in my beloved country (Philippines) specifically Davao City where I grew up. I immediately feel comfortable and home with Coach Julmar and excited about the upcoming coaching sessions. Though the coaching session starts at 9 PM which is 7 AM in my location, I didn’t mind waking up early and going to work after the session at all. What’s important to me at that time was the excitement that I felt.
Week one came along with the first live coaching session, I learned a lot of things through her video Coach Julmar explained it one by one from the basics of Virtual Assistance, Branding Setup to GVA Task. She explained it more simply and effectively that she enlightened me and answered those parked questions I had in mind for a long time. She helped me find my “niche”
Week two was about Social Media Management and Marketing. I must admit it’s not easy for me, I had sleepless nights and called off work because I can’t make social media management and marketing plan. I even asked for help from my husband and did tons of research, I felt like crying and pressured. I was about to give up again at that time but with the constant update and support of my classmates (#yummybatch) through group chat, I know I’m not alone in this struggle even them face the same dilemma. The group chat was my support system along with our coach. They share there struggles too, others share ideas and stuff that works for them related to the course and other classmates are like cheerleaders keeping us motivated. By the way, I’m one of those silent readers in the group but I rarely do comment if needed.
I’m in the third week of the course and I can say that there’s already a big change in terms of skills, one of them is writing a blog. I can’t believe that I’m writing this blog with six paragraphs. I know to myself that I’m a no writer but there’s no harm in trying and I want to give a try and push myself. I still have a few lessons left and the coaching sessions are over but as Coach Julmar said, “This is NOT goodbye ok?” I will finish the entire course and keep the fire burning in freelancing. I’ll always thank Coach Julmar for the endless support and keep believing in my works and also #yummybatch classmates for the insights and updates.
What’s next after the freelancing course? I’ll start applying until I get my first ever client and I’ll see to it that I’ll use the teachings and techniques that I learned throughout the entire Freelancing Course. Thank you so much FVA Academy!
